How to troubleshoot no “Switch User” option in Windows 10/11? — Auslogics Blog

When logging in with a domain admin account, the start menu and search functions cease to work, but I can still right click and access the tools menu and use Server Manager. Restarting Explorer had no effect, but if I switch back over to my microsoft account, everything is fine.

Shall have a look this morning got you bill – Update Hey Bill, Sorry, Haven’t had chance yet to get round to deploy Win However have got it deploying as I right this, So shall let you know the results soon. I don’t have an answer for you but just wanted to let you know I see the same issue on my end. All other domain accounts even ones in the DA group are fine. I tried all sorts of stuff to make it work including deleting the profile and recreating etc – still does not work that God-Mode folder is pretty useful when logged in as that account!

I can confirm the same problem. Looks like a policy issue but it is not. I tried Windows 7 in exactly the same environment and that works fine. W10 has a Start button option en also the seach option does not work. I spent 3 days working on this problem before I found this article. It was a dark hole of powershell commands, creating new users, reinstalling, refreshing and cursing. As soon as I joined the domain the start menu, taskbar, edge, app store, setting app all stopped working.

Event log full of DCOM errors. I have an interesting not to add to this dilemma. We had a similar issue with the two machines we are testing as well as a couple that I have at home. I don’t know why 2 would make a difference, but when we turned it back on the Start Button worked again and we were able to install the Windows Critical Update that would fix this issue. Once Installed we could then disable the Firewall again with out having any issues. At home, my Firewall was on with the same result and the update did not seem to fix it.

I found the following advice:. Guys i know this is an OLD thread, but i wanted to post my findings on it too.

I had the same problem this morning and did some digging through GPO’s and found that if you are running an 08r2 level domain that does not have the latest win 10 gpo’s imported it can remove accounts from the registry. We had a few settings enabled for registry permissions as well as preferences. I wound up deleting the registry updates and rebuilding the VM’s, after that everything worked as expected. Folks, if your working on joining a windows 10 workstation to a domain and your experiencing the issue where the start button, search bar, cortana and Microsoft edge do not work for you you can’t click on them make sure that your firewall on the machine is running.

Check the service is running and or that if there is a GPO out there that disables the firewall. Turn that GPO off. This resolved my issue. I have Microsoft Surface Pro’s that were having the same issue. I would take the Surface out of the domain and log in using a local admin account. I would then do a check disk and system file checker.

Next I would do the Windows 10 Free upgrade. Once the upgrade was complete I would log in to the same local admin account and everything seem to be fine.

Next I joined the domain and tried to use a domain account problems would happen. If it was a domain profile that has a existing profile folder in the “Users” folder that Windows 10 would automatically make a new profile folder.

Also the start menu button or anyone of the taskbar icons would not work. The fix is simple. I logged into the local admin account. Opened “regedit” and went to the Profile Folders List in registry. Find the entry that has the Profile Folder that is you want to change back to the original profile folder. Modify the “ProfileImagePath” so that is displays the old user profile folder path. After the upgrade and rejoining of the domain he logged in and now has a fold named “tony.

After restart and log in as Tony. His original profile with all his files, mapped drives, and printers should all be there. Also, the start menu button and taskbar icons will be working again. I had the same issue. Problem was modification of Default Domain Policy.

I went lline by line and removed all entries that wern’t needed and a ton of registry entries that somehow got in there. Then I synced up the domain and everything is good to go. I don’t know if this will fix existing Windows 10 already joined to the domain. Hope this helps. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.
